We know exercise, spending time with friends, and a little retail therapy can all go a long way to make us feel happy – but did you know including a few certain foods into your diet can increase your serotonin levels too? 

 

Nuts

Be it pecans, peanuts, or pistachios, all nuts contain an amino acid called tryptophan, which can help up your happiness levels and even assist in a better night’s sleep as they contain melatonin, too. That sounds pretty good to us! 

 

Salmon 

Our favourite fish provides sooo many benefits for our happiness levels and overall health. While giving us that boost of serotonin, research shows salmon also helps in lowering blood pressure, supports brain function, prevents muscle loss, and lowers the risk of heart disease. 

 

Pineapples 

Who would have thought this fabulous fruit not only tastes good but makes us feel good, too? Delicious in a salad, a juice or just by itself, pineapples can put a smile on your dial and may aid digestion, boost your immunity, and help keep your bones healthy. 

 

Eggs 

The verdict is in - eggs are egg-cellent! Hard-boiled, poached, or scrambled – remember to leave in the yolk as this is where the goodness lies. Containing our favourite serotonin-boosting amino acid, tryptophan, eggs are also a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which help promote brain function, heart health, and reduce inflammation. 

 

Walk in nature, have a picnic, read that book – do what you love doing – all while integrating food that adds a little healthy happiness into your meals. Caramel macadamia slice, anyone?
