While some might think this is a ‘dear diary’ situation – having to write out your deepest, darkest thoughts from the day – it is far more therapeutic and beneficial than that.
Journaling is all about self-love and, as we know, that’s always on-trend. Think of mindfulness, but actively putting your feelings, day’s activities – anything! – onto a blank piece of paper, or yes, a diary.
For first timers, sit in a quiet space, set a timer for 15 minutes and just start writing anything and everything that pops into your head. Make this a daily routine, and preferably choose a particular time and stick to it.
Mental
Journaling can untap thoughts you didn’t know you had or emotions you were holding onto. Soon enough, you’ll acknowledge them, start to process them, and work out a game plan to curb these (if negative) or be inspired by them (if positive).
Physical
Research shows journaling can help reduce stress, decrease anxiety, and improve your mood – it has even been found to strengthen immune cells.
So now it’s time to turn your notifications on silent and pick up that pen, and practice taking time out for you – because you’re worth it.
